Shopify Payments is Shopify’s built-in way to take card payments on your store. It only works in supported countries, and Shopify says you must turn on two-step authentication before you can use it.
- Make sure Shopify Payments is available in your country.
- Pick your store currency before your first sale and turn on two-step authentication.
- Have your personal details, business details, ID, and payout bank account ready. Some stores may also need proof of address or business documents.
Open your payment settings
Log in to Shopify, then go to Settings -> Payments.
Turn on Shopify Payments
In the Shopify Payments section, click Activate Shopify Payments. If you already use another payment company, click Switch to Shopify Payments instead.
Add your personal details
Type in your name, address, and ID information, then click Next.
Add your business details
Fill in your business information so Shopify can verify who is running the store.
Add your phone number
Enter the phone number you want customers to see on their bank statement, then click Next.
Check everything
Review your business type and store details. If everything looks correct, click Confirm.
Send it for review
Click Submit for verification so Shopify can review the information you entered.
Upload documents if Shopify asks
Sometimes Shopify requests extra verification documents. Upload them only through the secure message or banner inside your Shopify admin. Shopify says documents sent by email or support chat will not work, and review can take up to 24 hours after upload.
Connect your bank account
After your account is verified, go back to Settings -> Payments. In Shopify Payments, click Connect a bank account, add your bank details, and click Save. This is where Shopify will send your payouts.
Test it before going live
Once setup is complete, you can turn on test mode to make sure everything works. Go to Settings -> Payments -> Manage, turn on Enable test mode, and click Save.
Shopify Payments setup complete
Once Shopify approves your account, your store can start taking card payments and your money will be sent to your payout bank account.
It may not be available in your country, or your business type may not be supported. In that case, you will need to use a different payment provider.
Make sure two-step authentication is turned on. Shopify says payouts can be placed on hold until that is active.
Make sure the details on your documents match the details in your Shopify Payments account.
